AMORY, Miss. (WCBI)-A culinary arts management team of students from Amory High School have captured first place on the state level and are headed to the nationals.

The team of four teenagers have a style thats first rate in the state, and they have a trophy to prove it.

“They created the concept of what they wanted to do for the restaurant. The name, the logo, two marketing techniques to actually sell. And thats all part of it. We are given rules that we have to follow in order to compete,” said Diane Young, Culinarty Arts Instructor.

“Cause it took so much work. We were pretty excited about the work we put into it and what it really came out to be,” said Detyne Galloway, Amory High School.

From the ground up, the teens had to combine the necessary layout, decor, and business marketing tool for Sweet N’ Savory, the name of their unique eatery meeting a variety of customer need.

“When the students were working on it we got plenty of fast food restaurants around and people are wanting things that are natural. They are wanting something different,” added Young.

“Its a new American cuisine  with a southern twist. We wanted to do something that was a little different than what everybody else did,” said Harli Benton, Amory High School.

“We really wanted to do like a relaxed kind of place.  Not for just you know teenager to come in, but for anybody like business people. Anybody like that because its like we have wi fi. We have a separate room for business people,” said Galloway.

Important to the success of any restaurant….their menu.

“We had to pick something that you know everybody would like and stuff. So we did sandwiches, soups, dessert, and we made our own breads and we did salads,” said T’Angela Freeman, Amory High School.

“We created a website and we did the lunch VIP cards, which is how we’re going to sell our Sweet N’ Savory Restaurant,” said Chelsey harlow, Amory High School.

The students are selling containers of spice blends to fund their $6,000 trip to the national competition held in Baltimore on April 18th.
