Vigil held for local teens, victims of fatal wreck

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A vigil is planned Monday evening to remember two teenagers who died in a wreck near Plantersville Saturday night.

Margaret Riley, 18, and Brandon Coward, 17, were killed when their vehicle left Highway 6 Saturday night and hit a tree.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says Riley was driving 2003 Chevrolet truck, heading east, when she lost control of the vehicle.

Coward was a passenger in the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Steve Caygle is chief of the Union Volunteer Fire Department.

He says Coward was a new member of the department and he will be missed.. Caygle says the entire community has been impacted.

“This kid was well known, both of them well known and loved through the community so it’s really hurting all the young kids they went to school with,” said Caygle.

That vigil is planned for Monday evening, at the Nettleton High School tennis courts.
