Warm This Weekend, but Winter Comes Back Monday Night

Our WCBI Meteorologists continue to monitor for the potential of snow area-wide Monday Night into Tuesday.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Overall quiet with passing clouds from time to time. Lows in the 30s.  Winds will remain variable under 5 mph.

SUNDAY:  A mix of sun and clouds is on tap with warmer highs in the mid 50s.  Look for light variable winds under 5 mph.  Lows Sunday Night fall back into the 30s.

MONDAY:  Unseasonably mild air returns for just one day.  We currently expect highs in the 60s with a southwesterly breeze.  Showers will roll in after supper time and temperatures will quickly free-fall as the cold front passes through.  Winds will also pick up out of the north through Monday Night.

MONDAY NIGHT-TUESDAY:  An Arctic cold front is expected to pass through our area late Monday Night into early Tuesday morning.  Rain showers will switch over to snow showers and some accumulation is certainly possible.  We continue to look at the potential for anywhere from a light coating to a few inches of snow.  Look for the official snowfall forecast to come out Sunday Night on WCBI News.

The big key to this event will be the impacts.  With free-falling temperatures likely into the 20s by Tuesday Morning, any moisture present on the ground and on the roads will have the chance to turn into black ice.  Even with the lightest amount of snow, impacts may end up being fairly high with this event.  We right now think that school closings may occur, and travel may become treacherous Tuesday and Tuesday Night.  Look for temperatures to fall into the upper teens to mid 20s by Tuesday Night.

TUESDAY NIGHT-WEDNESDAY:  Black ice and dangerous wind chill values will be an ongoing concern after the snow.  Dry air and a little sun may in fact help to evaporate a lot of the moisture off the roads Tuesday afternoon, but it is still probable that some areas will be dealing with slick spots heading into Wednesday.  Wednesday Afternoon, look for highs in the upper 30s to perhaps low 40s.  That coupled with abundant sunshine will help to really take care of things across the area by Wednesday afternoon.

THURSDAY – NEXT WEEKEND: Temperatures slowly rise every day, approaching the 50s by Saturday.  We may be dealing with a few showers Friday and Saturday.  We’ll monitor.
