Webster County investigator and jailer arrests come after indictments

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – We have new information on the arrests of a former Webster County Sheriff’s Department investigator and a jail employee.

District Attorney Doug Evans confirmed Landon Griffin was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of Embezzlement and two counts of Trafficking Firearms.

Santana Townsend was indicted on two counts of Sexual Activity with an Inmate, Furnishing Contraband to an Inmate, and Sale and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Grand jurors also indicted Sheriff Tim Mitchell.

Griffin and Townsend were arraigned and bonded out of jail Monday.

Mitchell is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

There is no official word on whether more arrests are expected. Evans says the investigation is ongoing.
