Webster County Sheriff Tim Mitchell makes initial court appearance

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Webster County Sheriff Tim Mitchell had his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.

Mitchell is accused of 12 felonies, including attempting a sexual act with an inmate, to giving weapons to a prisoner.

Circuit Judge Joseph Loper set Mitchell’s bond at $400,000.

If Mitchell makes bond he will be required to wear an ankle bracelet and will be on house arrest.

Judge Joseph Loper says Chief Deputy Andy McCants was appointed by Sheriff Mitchell to run the Webster County Sheriff’s Department while this investigation plays out.
