West Point Drug Trafficking Arrest

WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release: Clay County Sheriff) – A West Point resident has been arrested by law enforcement on drug trafficking charges. On May 1st a traffic stop initiated by the West Point Police Department led to the arrest of David Smith, age 28.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated drug agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Clay County Sheriff Department and West Point Police Department initiated a search warrant which led to the discovery of 1 lb. of methamphetamine (Ice). Scott stated the approximate street value is $50,000.00. A felony amount of marijuana was seized by the West Point Police Department during the initial stop.

Smith has been charged with aggravated drug trafficking, possession of felony marijuana and other misdemeanor charges. Bond has been set for all charges (city and county) at $253,439.50. Smith is currently incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center.

Sheriff Scott stated the continued cooperation between the agencies continue to remove large amounts of illegal narcotics off the streets.
