WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Local schools have been in full swing for a couple of months now but one man in West Point wanted to do something special to encourage students to put education first.

Children at the Town Creek Apartments in West Point were given school supplies and were treated to a day of fun to encourage them to stay in school.

The event including a ball and bing bag toss, a water slide and pool, games and a jumper.

Lester Moore is the apartment manager and event organizer.

“Without education, you can’t go anywhere. You can’t get a job, you can’t do anything. If you drop out, you’re just  another name, another figure.

Resident Curt Dent cooked for the event and Moore says he hopes to host the back-to-school event each year.
