WIC receives additional funding, able to operate through February

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Despite the government shutdown, the Mississippi Department of Health will be able to continue providing full assistance through February.

The agency’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, or WIC, received additional funding from the USDA.

The USDA is the agency that funds WIC.

This will allow WIC to provide supplemental nutrition even if the shutdown continues.

WIC provides services for 95,000 pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and children under five.

MSDH State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said they will continue to monitor the situation and make plans for further delays in funding if necessary.
