Winona Couple Starves Dog, Jail Time Possible

A Winona couple is under fire due to the cruel treatment of their dog.

A stray dog complaint on Monday, September 18, led Animal Control Officer Tim Pearson to the decaying remains of the dog.

The following day, Mary Jones and Marquise Johnson were sentenced for starving their pet.

The official charge of “aggravated cruelty to a dog or cat” netted the duo a $1,500, one year of probation and a six month jail term with all but 10 days suspended.

Jones admits that she last fed the dog Tuesday, September, 19, of last week and did not check on the dog for five days, when she found it dead.
