As of 8 a.m. Central, medical responders in Louisville, Mississippi, including teams sent by the University of Mississippi Medical Center, transported 37 patients to various hospitals. Those include:

12 adults in critical condition

3 peds in critical condition

5 adults in serious condition

3 peds in serious condition

14 adults in fair condition

They were taken to hospitals including Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Baptist Golden Triangle in Columbus, OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville and North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora.

Most of the critical patients were taken to UMMC.

An additional 50-100 patients were treated and released.

The storm hit the Winston County Medical Center in Louisville last night and the facility was evacuated. UMMC, in coordination with the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, sent an eight-bed mobile field unit hospital to Louisville and several teams to help local responders assess, triage and treat patients.

The mobile unit, contained in an 18-wheeler truck, staged in the Walmart parking lot since debris and impacted vehicles made access to the nearby Winston County Medical Center difficult. As well, the unit has a heavy footprint and requires a large clear, hard surface.

UMMC currently has 16 staff and faculty members on site including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists and administrators.

Professionals from the Health Department are assessing the Winston County Medical Center this morning to determine if it must be closed.

UMMC crews and the mobile field unit will stay in support of the Louisville community as long as they are needed. Meetings with local leadership, physicians and medical responders are planned today to better set that timeline.
