Winston Plywood Makes Final Step In Recovery

“The grand opening of Winston Plywood & Veneer is evidence of what can be accomplished when business partners with government at all levels to create jobs and spur economic growth,” Gov. Bryant said.

In April 2014, an EF-4 tornado destroyed the company’s facility in Louisville. Since then, Winston Plywood & Veneer has worked closely with the city of Louisville, Winston County and the Mississippi Development Authority to build its new facility.

“Today is a great day for all of us who work at WP&V and believe in the promise of this great business here in Louisville,” said Winton Plywood & Veneer President Jon Pierce.  “We could not be more thankful for the collaboration we’ve had from Mayor Hill, Governor Bryant and those across our community, all of whom have supported the launch of operations at this amazing facility.”

The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance for site preparation, relocation expenses, infrastructure needs and workforce training. Disaster recovery funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency were used to help build the new facility.

“Winston Plywood & Veneer could have rebuilt its facility anywhere in North America, but the company chose to remain in Louisville – a true testament to the quality of life in Louisville, Winston County and Mississippi, the region’s productive workforce and Mississippi’s pro-business climate,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “We congratulate the Winston Plywood and Veneer team and our partners at the Winston County Economic Development District Partnership, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the city of Louisville and Winston County on this historic milestone.”

Once at full capacity, Winston Plywood and Veneer will employ 400 workers.
