STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The political battle over the firing of Starkville’s top city administrator now begins in earnest. Aldermen voted 5-2 last week to fire Chief Administrative Officer Lynn Spruill but gave no reason for the decision. Mayor Parker Wiseman vetoed the decision today, setting the stage for a veto override when the board meets July 23. If all five votes hold, the firing will remain in place. Several groups have mounted efforts to sway at least one vote in Spruill’s favor. In his veto message, Wiseman touted Spruill’s experience as a lawyer, military veteran, former mayor and city administrator plus what he called her “undying passion” to improve her hometown. He said she at least needs to be told why she was fired. Spruill has remained on the job pending a final resolution.
