Video: Woman Sentenced for Filing False Disaster Claim

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A year and a day is how much time a Winston County woman will spend in federal prison for filing a false disaster claim.

Judge Sharon Aycock handed that sentence to 35-year-old Kourtnee Triplett, Friday.

Triplett admitted she lied when she told FEMA her apartment was damaged in the April 2014 tornado.

A FEMA investigation discovered the Beal Avenue home was not Triplett’s primary residence.

Triplett must also pay back more than $10,000, and serve five years probation.
