Woman shot in head over family property dispute

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A woman is still recovering in an area hospital after deputies say she was shot Tuesday  night.

According to investigators, Nora East was able to drive to a neighbor’s house and call 911 after John Smith allegedly broke into the home where she was staying.

The victim said Smith shot her in the head.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday on 659 County Road 52.

The 47-year-old man was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a family dispute over property.

John Smith’s brother, Jason Smith, owns the residence where the shooting happened.

The suspect faces Aggravated Assault and Burglary with a Weapon charges.

Bond has not been set.
