Alcorn Jail Escapee Back In Custody
An Alcorn jail inmate was recaptured around 8:30 Sunday night.
Police say, Garnett Hughes and another inmate overpowered a guard on Friday. The other inmate was back in custody by Friday night. However, Hughes remained on the loose.
A former neighbor recognized Hughes around a Corinth neighborhood and called police.
Chief Ralph Dance said after Hughes was spotted, officers set up a perimeter around the area. Hughes then made his way into a home on Tate Street by kicking the door in and hid in a utility room. The officers surrounded the home and were able to apprehend him.
Hughes was back in custody, without injury to anyone.
He has been charged with multiple counts of rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, and a former jail escape.
