COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. – The Air Education and Training Command Inspector General arrived at Columbus Air Force Base Feb. 4 to lead nine separate inspections as part of the base’s Consolidated Unit Inspection.

The CUI is a biannual requirement for all Air Force organizations to ensure they are operating in compliance with all governing regulations and directives. These in-depth looks at individual units also give AETC an opportunity to find innovative practices at Columbus AFB that can be shared throughout the Command.

“I am confident our team does the mission every day within the guidelines of our regulations and directives,” said Col. Jim Sears, 14th Flying Training Wing Commander. “This inspection gives us the opportunity to validate that.”

The 170 person strong inspection teams are made up of full-time inspectors as well as individuals who have joined the team to give the Inspector General the expertise needed to evaluate Columbus AFB’s compliance. For the duration of the CUI these team members will be staying in Columbus as they continue to inspect the base.

“The community support for the men, women and mission of Columbus Air Force Base is well known. With this large team, the majority of them will be eating in your restaurants and sleeping in your hotels,” said Sears. “My request is simple: Just treat them the way you treat our Airmen every day and they will discover why Columbus is called the ‘Friendly City’.”

Columbus AFB will receive the results of the inspection on Monday, Feb. 11.
