Church Burglar Captured In Tupelo

TUPELO (WCBI) – A Tupelo man is jailed in connection with the break in of a Tupelo church.   23 year old Joseph Smith is accused of stealing nearly $10, 000 worth of sound equipment, computers and cash from First Baptist Church during a mid November burglary.

Detectives were able to pick Smith up Thursday on the charges.   He is charged with burglary of a commercial building but since the theft took place from a church, Smith faces enhanced charges which could double potential jail time from 7 to 14 years.  Bond is set at $75,000
