CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A mother and father are in jail tonight, charged in a Clay County child sexual battery and rape investigation.

Wilber Shepard, 42, is charged with ten counts of sexual battery of a child and two counts of rape of a child.

His wife, 35 year-old Tammy Shepard, is charged with accessory after the fact of rape.

Her bond was set at one hundred thousand dollars.

Wilber Shepard’s bond was set one point two million.

Sheriff Eddie Scott says the investigation started immediately once deputies learned of the allegations.

He says the victims are in protective custody.

Scott believes this is an emotional case, but wants everyone to let investigators do their job.

“A lot of times people jump and start taking sides and drawing their own conclusions, but we strongly recommend you wait until all the facts have been determined. Again, taking care of the victims is the priority,” said Scott.

Scott says the victims are in the custody of the department of human services and are being monitored closely.
