Clay Drug Conviction Stands
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — A Clay County man will stay in prison after his appeal on a drug conviction is denied.
Alphonzo Garth was convicted in 2013 for possession of cocaine and sentenced to 25 years. The arrest came after Garth became involved in a scuffle with West Point police where they saw Garth throw a bag of white powder to a friend. Following that encounter, a drug dog found 30 grams of cocaine in the car. Attorneys argued that search by the canine was illegal. An argument the court of appeals rejected.
