TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- Park Heights restaurant in Tupelo hosted its third annual “Cooking Like the Stars” fundraiser in support of the Boys and Girls Club.

A representative from the Boys and Girls Clubs say these types of fundraisers are beneficial to the organization.

“Fundraising is how we make it, a lot of people think assume that we probably get a large portion of our funding through grants and through the federal and state government, and we do, but really is really the funds that are coming from right here from the local community that are keeping us afloat,” Evie Boyd, Director of Marketing & Special Events for the Boys and Girls Club said.

Boyd says this fundraiser also has a big impact on the city of Tupelo.

“I hope people see how community minded even our local restaurants and businesses are, That’s one thing I love about Tupelo, there’s not a need that we could ever need and some one could step up and meet that need,” she said.

Boyd also says events like “Cooking Like the Stars” is vital to the organization because it helps keeps the doors open.

“Some people might not remember, but we weren’t always open during Christmas break or thanksgiving break, because of our funding we couldn’t do that, but now because of events like this we’re able to do that,” she said.

This years fundraiser features four chefs from the Tupelo area who will be judged on the different dishes they make.

And all proceeds will go towards programming and operational cost for the Boys and Girls Club.
