OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Former Trooper Christopher G. Hughes, 42, was sentenced to 33 months in jail with 2 years supervised release for a 2007 offense.

On February 25, Hughes pleaded guilty to denying a woman he arrested of her civil rights.

His October 2012 indictment states: on October 14, 2007, he transported a woman to the jail and then threw her on the concrete floor, stomped her head against the floor, and kicked her “without legal justification.” The case says that Hughes denied the woman of her freedom from excessive force.

He appeared before U.S. Senior District Judge Neal B. Biggers with his attorney Jason Herring.

In exchange for his plea, the government has agreed to drop two other civil rights cases against him.

The final decision on which prison Hughes will serve his time in is up to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. They will make the decision next week, and Hughes will turn himself in on August 19.
