Investigation Continues Into Weekend Shooting In Alabama

LAMAR CO., Ala. (WCBI) – The investigation into a deadly Lamar County, Alabama shooting continues today.

Sheriff Hal Allred says 23 year-old James Clifton Merchant was shot after getting into an argument with a woman.

Merchant and the woman have a child together.

The shooting happened on Kingville Drive, in the Detroit area, on Friday evening.

Merchant was taken to a Hamilton hospital and later transferred to Tupelo. That’s where he died.

Allred says his investigators have turned over all evidence and statements to the district attorney’s office.

District Attorney Chris McCool says the shooting remains under investigation.
