Local Educators Tapped for Top State Honors

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI-TV) Three north Mississippi educators are finalists for the state’s highest honors.

John Ellison, Principal, Houston Middle School

John Ellison, the Principal of Houston Middle School, is a candidate for Administrator of the Year.

The Mississippi Department of Education says this honor goes to an administrator who inspires teachers, demonstrates leadership and is an active member of the community. Ellison is one of four finalists.

Charles Yarborough, Social Studies, Mississippi School for Math and Science

High school history teacher Charles Yarborough is a finalist for Teacher of the Year. Yarborough teaches 11th and 12th graders at the Mississippi School for Math and Science.
And, Marsha Roeland, the 4th and 5th grade Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher at Nanih Waiya Attendance Center, is also a finalist for Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to these outstanding educators.

The recipients will be announced April 7 at the Jackson Convention Complex.
