Calhoun County Accident Claims Grenada Man

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (MHP Press Release) — A fatal accident occurred around 8:30 Monday morning on Highway 8 West in Calhoun County near County Road 380.

A white 2007 Chevrolet Extended Cab pickup driven by 37-year-old Darlene Farmer of Coffeeville was traveling west on Highway 8.  Farmer attempted to pass a vehicle and upon entering the other lane collided head on with a east bound white 2010 Ford F-150 driven by 57-year-old Barry Hanks of Grenada.

Danielle King, 23, of Grenada, was also east bound on Hwy 8 in a blue 1994 Ford Explorer and also collided with the Ford pickup after the initial head on crash, causing her vehicle to leave the highway and roll over.

Mr. Hanks was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calhoun County coroner. Ms. Farmer was airlifted to Tupelo NMMC with serious injuries. Ms. King sustained no major injuries and was not transported.

The accident remains under investigation by MHP.
