Calhoun County Fatal Shooting Victim’s Name Released

BIG CREEK, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a 26-year-old man found dead in a Calhoun County ditch has been identified.

Sheriff Greg Pollan says the victim is Billy Covington, of Big Creek.

Pollan says Covington’s body was found in a ditch on County Road 308 by two people Saturday around 10:30 a.m.

Investigators say he died from at least one gunshot wound, but right now, they’re not sure how many times he was shot.

The sheriff’s department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are following several leads and conducting interviews.

The case remains under investigation.
