COLUMBUS, Miss. ( WCBI) — Columbus leaders held their second community meeting Monday night.

Mayor Robert Smith and Police Chief Tony Carleton have been hosting the meetings to address violence in the city, after 4 people were shot in Sim Scott Park, earlier this month.

Monday they were at the East Columbus Gym, discussing the importance of reporting crime and introducing the new task force that will be patrolling the area.

Residents that came out, say they are concerned for the safety of their community.

” We’re looking for safety for our citizens. A lot of crimes have been going on, a lot of shootings in some areas, and we need to voice our opinions, ” says resident Joseph Mickens.

” I just want our community safe and I want the citizens to feel like they can come and go as they please in safety, ” says resident Mary Ezell.

There is one more community meeting next Monday at the Townsend Community Center.
