COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Police Department honors 2 of its own for saving a man’s life who was trying to commit suicide.

The heroics happened the morning of December 15th, when officers responded to a call at 286 Miller Lane.

A suicidal man attacked an officer, grabbed his gun and put it to his own head.

Officer Rebecca Lomax wrestled the gun out of his hand.

Proper police response likely saved the suspect’s life.

Chief McQueen presented Officers Lomax and Chris Bennett with the Chief’s Coins.

They also received a certificate, and a nice letter was placed in their files.
