STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Dozens of students and Delta State University employees are attending counseling sessions following Monday’s deadly on-campus shooting involving two of its professors.

School officials say three large counseling sessions are being offered, and they’re encouraging students to return to campus.

Wendie Woods, a counselor for 19 years, says students shouldn’t be afraid to get help when tragedies happen.

“They’re going to have a little bit more difficulty in getting back to a normal routine, obviously talking with friends and family, or encouraging support systems that’s helpful, but certainly utilizing a counselor or a trained professional,” Woods said.

A vigil is planned for 7 p.m., Tuesday.

Classes at Delta State will resume Wednesday.
