Video: First Play At EMCC
MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s the first theatrical production in the history of the Golden Triangle campus at EMCC.
Lights, camera, action… Director and script writer Dr. Don Vaughan is excited to finally debut his new play called “Interference”.
“The show takes place in 1968, the reason I chose 1968 that was a very happy time for me in my childhood. A lot of it really reflects my radio work when I was in college but the play is 4 acts, runs about 2 hours and I hope everyone comes out, it’s a great night of theater,” said Director Dr.Don Vaughan.
EMCC students involved in the production say it’s great to be a part of something that’s never been done before on this campus and that working with Dr.Vaughen has been a real treat.
“It talks about what he’s been through in his life because he was part of a radio dr. Von was and his interests in the radio and he’s bringing that into a play making it come to life and also teaching us little things about radio along the way,” said student actor Jordan Lewis.
“It’s just been fun, he’s really pleasant to get along with, we’ve had to cramp down and crunch it the last couple of weeks but even then he just has a very fun spirit. Where he’s just easy to get along with him and listen to all his ideas,” said student actor Kyle Gurley.
Victoria Butler plays the lead role of Susan. She says she can relate to some aspects of the character.
“Susan works at her fathers radio station and she’s recently taken over because he pasted away, she meets back up with someone she loved 9 years ago in college and they fall back in love,” said student actor Victoria Butler.
They couldn’t give away all the secrets before opening night, but Butler says…
“Be prepared to attend a wedding, that’s all I’ll tell you,” added Butler.
The play will debut tonight on the Mayhew campus.
