Freeze Warning Delays Power Service Shutoffs

MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — The cold snap is providing a brief break for people who are about to have their power cut off because of non-payment.

State utility rules bar gas and electric companies from shutting off service anytime a freeze warning is issued for the county where the home is located.

The temporary reprieve is just that: temporary. As soon as the freeze warning expires, the utilities can resume its collection practices, including shutting off service.
