Update: Names Released in Fatal Alcorn Crash

GLENN, Miss. (MHP Press Release) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating a fatal crash in Alcorn County, east of Corinth, that claimed the lives of two people.

Troopers responded to US 72, east bound, near APAC, at approximately 1:30pm.

Upon arriving it appeared two or three vehicles were in the ditch due  to icy conditions. During this time a good Samaritan had stopped to help one of the vehicles that had crashed. Then a semi tractor/trailer, traveling east bound, jack-knived and collided into a parked vehicle, that was on the shoulder and  three pedestrians.

Two of the pedestrians were a mother and son from Belmont, Mississippi. They had actually been in one of the minor crashes and had walked up to the roadway. The mother, Anahi Ramirez, 25, of Belmont, was transported to Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth and died from injuries sustained in the crash. Her son, a 9 year old child, was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth and later transferred to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tn.

A good Samaritan, who stopped to assist with the crashes, was the third person struck. Anna D. Hill, 47, of Burnsville, died on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Troop F in New Albany responded to approximately 106 crashes/assistance calls yesterday due to icy conditions. Specifically 28 crashes were reported on US 72 near the Corinth area.

GLEN, Miss. (WCBI) – An icy road is being blamed for an accident that killed two pedestrians and injured a child in Alcorn County on Friday afternoon.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman Trooper Ray Hall told WCBI the crash happened about 1:30 P.M. on Highway 72 in Glen, near the Tishomingo County line.

Hall said two vehicles ran off the road and into a ditch after hitting a patch of ice.

Three pedestrians assisting after the wreck were then struck by a semi-tractor trailer that hit the same patch of ice.

Two adults died from their injuries. A child, who was also struck, is in stable condition at a Corinth hospital.

The names of the victims have not been released.

State troopers continue to investigate the accident.
