COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus leaders say they get more complaints from people from all over the region about it than almost anything else…the parking lot at Leigh Mall.

Building Inspector Kenny Wiegel told council members Tuesday night the California-based owner of the mall is coming to Columbus Wednesday and plans to meet Thursday with two paving contractors.

The city has paved and patched the streets around and leading to the mall but can’t do anything about the potholes and dips in the parking lots because those are owned by the mall.

Some entrances have gotten so bad they’ve been blocked off.

City leaders say the conditions hurt business and deter shoppers.

CITY COUNCIL BALKS AT 911 BOARD CHANGES

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Their administrators would have standing but Columbus city leaders want them to have a voice.

The City Council Tuesday night tabled a proposed restructuring of the county’s 911 board to discuss the issue with supervisors. The county last week approved reducing the board from seven or nine voting members back to one from each of the five supervisor districts as was its original format.

The Columbus fire and police chiefs, sheriff and EMA director would be advisory members but not voting.

City council members say that since the city provides half the funding for 911, they’d like the police and fire chiefs to be voting members.
