MSU Fans Carry On Tailgating Tradition

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a college football tradition..Tailgating with family and friends.

Thousands fill The Junction on the campus of Mississippi State to grill out and get ready for the big games.

But what makes tailgating so special for fans and how much work goes into getting ready for a tailgate?

Fans of all ages are dedicated to tailgating in The Junction.

There is food, fun and games but for some, Saturday’s in The Junction are about reuniting with friends.

” We all graduated together from here in 2009 and we’ve been out here ever since, about 40 of us graduated together. It’s a good time. We get to stick together and be around old friends back from school, so we enjoy it,” said MSU fan Ben Ford.

Along with the fun also come some hard work, like unloading tents and preparing food.

“We have guys that set up for us on Friday and we usually try to get here about six hours before the game, regardless before it starts. A lot of mornings we’ve been here before the sun rose, so it’s been good times,” said Ford.

But the work is worth the fun.

Fans say tail gating tradition they look forward to every football season.

“Well it’s always fun for all of us. We all get together from different areas, some come from Texas sometimes and we just all meet at the same spot and it’s just a great experience for us,” said MSU fan, Kay Davis.

” We’ve been tailgating for about 7 years and we love it and we’re going to continue to support out bulldogs,” said MSU fan, Milton Scales.
