No Charges Coming Against Student Involved In MSU Scare

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI) — Oktibbeha County Prosecutors have declined to press charges against a Mississippi State student.

Phu-Qui Cong Nguyen has voluntarily checked himself into a local treatment facility according to MSU Police Chief Vance Rice. Nguyen has also withdrawn from MSU.

Reports came in to the 911 Center that the Madison freshman was threatening suicide and harm against other people. That happened a little after 10 a.m. yesterday.

The Maroon Alert warned of an active shooter and urged faculty and students to shelter in place.

Rice says Nguyen was taken into custody without incident. The freshman did not have a weapon.

His call to a Jackson office prompted the 911 call and the alert. University police, along with area law enforcement, responded rapidly. The entire event lasted only 44 minutes from the time the call was received, Nguyen was placed in custody and the all clear was given.
