State Grant to Renovate AgriCenter

HOUSTON, Miss. (AP) — The state is providing $250,000 for improvements to the Chickasaw County AgriCenter in Houston, Mississippi.

Angie Abrams, with Chickasaw AgriCenter Committee, tells the a local newspaper the committee will start the process of advertising for bids on various jobs.

She says the first project is to fix the roof and after that the bathrooms and concession stands. She says the wish-list includes about a dozen other projects.

The AgriCenter Committee has used county inmates and volunteers for years to make repairs at the giant metal coliseum south of Houston. Committee members say now it is time for major maintenance.

AgriCenter committee members said no local taxes dollars are in this grant and there is no local match requirement.

Officials say AgriCenter is used about every weekend from fall to spring.
