JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- Mississippi lawmakers are tackeling a lottery bill that would help fund the state’s education.

If passed, House Bill 175 would call for a state-wide special election. Counties would then vote on whether or not to bring the lottery to Mississippi.

If passed, a percentage of the proceeds collected from the sale of lottery tickets within a county would be distributed to that county.

The remainder would go towards the Mississippi Hope Scholarship Trust Fund. Mississippi is one of six states that does not have powerball sales.

Alabama also does not participate in the lottery.
