Tupelo Homicide Suspect Arrested In Louisiana

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo police say Leah Bishop, 45, was arrested at a roadblock in Louisiana on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, the circumstances around the crime became more clear.

Jesse Traylor, 65, was found inside a home on Rollingwood Drive in Tupelo on Wednesday night. The tip came from south Mississippi law enforcement.

Laurel Police Department Captain Tommy Cox tells WCBI, Laurel officers responded to Veterans Memorial Museum after someone called requesting police about 7 P.M. on Wednesday.

Officers found an envelope with papers inside that indicated a crime had been committed in Tupelo and there was a possible suicidal person on the run.

Tupelo police were contacted and went to the Rollingwood Drive home.

Tupelo police say Bishop was Traylor’s girlfriend.

Chief Bart Aguirre tells WCBI when Bishop went through the roadblock in Winnsboro, Louisiana she didn’t have a license and was taken into custody.

Officers traced the victim’s credit card and received a hit that it had been used in Winnsboro, LA.

Thursday afternoon Tupelo detectives called Louisiana law enforcement, only to discover Bishop was already in jail.

Investigators have started the extradition process.

Bishop will be charged with capital murder, according to Aguirre.
