COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – For the second time in less than a week an “active shooter” was reported on a school campus. Fortunately, Tuesday’s  report at the former Lee Middle School was only a drill.

Air Force Base Security Forces are working with the Starkville and Columbus Police Departments to develop action plans and test reaction times, so they will be better prepared should the “real” call come in.

“An active shooter can engage or kill or attempt to kill persons and you know could fine public area and it’s not just schools now. You have all kind of areas out there in the city, but it’s very important to have this kind of training.”

“We’re looking to continue exercises like this and to insure that our communication is the same with our local counterparts as well as with our personal as well so we’ve intermingled all of our people with local law enforcement and make sure we can accomplish that goal.”

CAFB Security Forces are planning on holding more drills.
