Video: Chickasaw Nation Approaches Mayors’ Association With Heritage Preservation Ideas

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI)  -The Chickasaw Nation wants to bring its heritage back to Mississippi. In a presentation to the North Mississippi Mayors Association, tribal representatives showed city leaders ideas to help raise awareness of the area’s Native American heritage.

One mayor believes, recognizing the Chickasaw culture will benefit everyone.

“It’s a part of our history and the great thing about it it gives our communities the opportunity to capitalize on that.”

Some of the ideas presented by the Chickasaw Nation include a heritage center in Tupelo and a heritage festival.
