STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville is one step closer to having a new industrial park.

After backing out of a deal last year, some new locations are on the table.

The search for a Starkville industrial park is narrowing. 3 Options were pitched by Golden Triangle Development LINK Ceo Joe Max Higgins, but like most projects no spot in perfect.

Option one … Stanley, Strange, Waldrop Property.
“Opportunities there with utilities, especially electricity. We’ve got some challenges in natural gas and we’ve got some cultural resources that we need to deal with,” says Higgins.

Option two … 16th Section.
” About half the size as the Strange, Stanely Waldrop Property, but its got a lot of the infrastructure in place. And the school district owns it so there’s a chance that the city and county could partner with them and be able to get that one to market fairly quickly,” says Higgins.

Option three … Cornerstone Park.
“Sewer and roads are in place, but it’s limited electricity capacity and we don’t think there will be enough capacity there to really market it till march ’18,” says Higgins.

Despite some of the difficulties Oktibbeha Supervisor’s President Orlando Trainer says it’s worth it.

“I knew when we got involved in this that it wouldn’t be a simple process. I’m under the impression that anything worth having is worth working for.”

Trainer says he hopes the park will help keep people in the Golden Triangle.

“And once they go out and get this education and get this training they need to have a place they can utilize it here. If not they will go off to other communities.”

No word yet on what companies could be brought in, but the prospect of growing the area has everyone willing to work together, Hoping to get a spot picked in the next few months.

City and county leaders will now pick 6 representatives who will further examine the 3 options.

Higgins says they hope to have a decision made in 45 days.
