LOUISVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–Winston Medical Center is extending health services into the community by establishing a small medical clinic within the Louisville School District.

In the past there has been a nurse at Fair Elementary School in Louisville that was made available through the state tobacco funding money, but now at the Louisville school there is much more than that.

“This is the first time the hospital has owned a clinic in the facility and they have partnered together with the school district to provide a school nurse for the district and a clinic where we can treat the students,” said Jennifer Palmer/WMC NP.

“We’ll be providing healthy you physicals, wellness exams for the teachers and students. We’ll also be here to provide sick visit for the students,” said Debbie Fryery/WMC Director of Clinic Operations.

Other staff members at the school will also have access to medical assistance and a small lab on site should help in assessing medical conditions.

“But yes, healthy you labs, any kind of acute labs that we need, we can provide that. What we don’t do on site we can send out to our Winston medical Center lab,” said Jennifer Palmer.

The clinic is the first of it’s kind in the immediate area. Keep in mind no major surgeries performed at this little institution for learning, but this necessary arm is reaching out linking patients with no so serious conditions, to an immediate health professional.

“And also eventually we’ll do the medicaid screenings for the students as well. The wellness screenings,” said Jennifer Palmer.

“Its a great benefit for the school, it’s a great benefit for the hospital. its a great benefit for the community,” said Debbie Fryery.

Health screenings are a major addition at the school clinic. Screening that can help with early detection of health problems.
