Video: Oktibbeha Supes Look At Multi-Tenant Buildings

STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–Oktibbeha County supervisors are hiring an Oxford-based consultant firm to help with drafting regulations for multi-tenant building complexes that will hopefully help with traffic flow issues.

Traffic flow at the familiar section near the MSU campus, seems to be kind of okay Tuesday. But thats because its not the fall when the campus is crowded, nor is it peak drive time for motorists. People working in that area say the commute can be hectic.

“In the afternoon from about four thirty on you cannot get out of this unless someone is nice enough to let you out. It’ll be backed up both ways. All the way that way, its very congested,” said Debra Kleban/Oktibbeha County Motorist.

“And when I go to the doctors or anything you know, going to town it could take me 30 minutes just to get home because traffic will be backed up so bad from the college. Especially around 12 and three,” said Amanda Wheat/Oktibbeha County Resident.

The firm Slaughter and Associates are expected to present their suggestion to county officials, who stop short of having a solution to the problem, and who at this point are not going to impose a moratorium on future constructions. Meanwhile motorists traveling along that area are complaining of a busy and time consuming commute.

“You can be waiting, it’ll even be backed up all the way to the stop light is one of the worse things, cause it stops traffic back so much,” said Amanda Wheat.

Stuck in traffic one day, all Wheat could do was pick up her cell phone and text her mother-in-law who lives in Maben.

“Yeah I sent her a couple of pictures one time and told her you know, I said I’ll be home when I can, look at this traffic,” said Amanda Wheat.

“When you only live like 5 miles out and it takes you 30 minutes to get from that corner there to here its. Thats why a lot of us came in a little bit later to beat some of it,” said Debra Kleban.

Finalization of regulations from the consulting firm of Slaughter and Associates is expected to be presented to supervisors in the near future, who will have to decide on what to do with traffic and infrastructure issues.
