TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Tupelo first responders spent time this morning, remembering the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice 14 years ago.

Every September 11th, a remembrance ceremony is held at Tupelo’s Fire Station Number one. There was a time of prayer, and comments from the fire and police chiefs, along with Mayor Jason Shelton.

Tupelo’s fire chief says the country must never forget the 343 firemen and paramedics who were killed, and the 60 police officers who lost their lives in the terror attacks.

“They were heroes the day before 9 11 2001 but we martyr them now and that’s what we need to do, we need to remember them, the sacrifices they made, and the job the ones that are still here do everyday.”

Speakers also encouraged everyone to pray for the nation and its leaders.
