Video: Winona Aldermen Introduce Curfew in Light of Complaints

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Kids age 17 and under in Winona and their parents need to keep a closer eye on the clock starting next month.

Aldermen approved an 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday curfew, and midnight on weekends.

Parents will have to pay a $100 fine, and teens could have to do 10 hours of community service work.

Violators will be held by police until their parents arrive.

Exemptions include if teens are with their parents, can show they’re going to and from work, a sporting event, the movies or some other activity supervised by adults.

The law takes effect in 30 days.

The law in response to growing complaints of kids on the streets and getting into trouble late at night, including the shooting death of a 21 year-old last month.
