Video: Webster County Gets Fire Equipment
WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Volunteer firefighters in Webster County are the beneficiaries of state of the art equipment to help them do a good job even better. When it can be, the State Forestry Commission is extremely generous in assisting volunteer firefighters with the equipment they need. Like a 5,000 gallon tanker truck. The latest gift from the agency, 10 special fire suits to be used by the Bellefontaine Volunteer Fire Department.
“Last night they brought some Wild Land firefighting equipment. Which includes a jumpsuit, which includes a helmet, gloves, and a spotlight for the helmet,” said Jimmy Forrester, PIO, Webster County.
“Instead of having to put on the turnout pants and the big coat whatever, this is a complete jumpsuit with the helmet,” said Forrester.
The equipment used by the Mathiston Fire Department have been received with open arms in the past. Webster and surrounding departments got those special suits designed for the hot weather they often experience at fire scenes.
“For us, the departments that have this equipment, if they come out in the summertime and we are fighting fires especially outside, wild fires or brush fires that get out of hand that sort of thing. These people can do it without having to wear that heavy turnout equipment that they normally would put on,” said Forrester.
And so fire departments used to doing a good job, should find it a bit cooler while performing their tasks. And the dollar figure……
“This equipment comes as a grant to the fire departments it doesn’t cost the fire departments anything,” said Forrester.
Oktibbeha and other surrounding counties also received the equipment, and there were firefighters at a special gathering in Eupora on Monday night.
