WICKS COMMUNITY, Miss. (WCBI) – One local community is pledging to live a healthy lifestyle and get in shape.

Hosted by a non-profit group, The Wicks Community hosted their 6th annual 5K walk and health fair on Saturday.

Residents in the Wicks Community got their feet moving fast this morning.

Hosted by the Wicks 4-H Club, the community wants to promote good health and wellness.

“We want actually to bring in awareness in the rural part of Lowndes County. How important health is, how important walking is, the benefit of walking,” said organizer of the event Mildred Smith.

4-H is a non-profit group, aimed towards youth development in local communities.

Velina Dixon traveled back home from Florida to support the cause.

“Whenever possible, I try to return home to support the cause to give back to the community, the development, the education of the young students in the area,” said Dixon.

Dixon says the club teaches kids valuable life lessons.

“What the 4-H has provided for these young people is giving them an opportunity to give back to the community, to learn about service in the community. It’s also provided them opportunity to learn about organization, staying on task, responsibility,” said Dixon.

And for the young 4-H members, they all have a favorite part of the club.

“Because it’s a group where you can communicate with people,” 4-H Club President McKaylah Deloach.

“The arts and crafts,” said Khrisma Liddell.

“The trips,” said McKenzie Deloach.

The 4-H community is always welcoming new members.
