Long-Time Chancery Clerk For Oktibbeha County Dies

OKTIBBEHA CO., Miss. (WCBI) – Monica Banks, the long-time chancery clerk for Oktibbeha County Chancery, died this morning following an illness.

Banks was first elected to the clerk position in 1995. She was the first African-American in Oktibbeha County to hold the job.monica-banks

At the time she was first elected, Banks was the first woman to hold the office in nearly 40 years.

Banks was active in numerous professional and community organizations, including the Oktibbeha County Leadership Development Forum, and serving as past President of the Oktibbeha County Democratic Women.

She held a lifetime membership in the NAACP.

A mother and grandmother, Banks was also very active in her Ackerman church, where her husband, William B. Banks, serves as pastor.

Banks was 58 years old.
