Republicans Hold Rally For Trump In Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The presidential election is less than four weeks away and both sides are talking some this week about unity.

The Lee County Republicans held a rally Thursday to bring together Donald Trump supporters in Tupelo.

A few hundred people came out in front of City Hall. They heard from local conservative leaders. Sheriff Jim Johnson and District Attorney John Weddle spoke, as did State Senator Chad McMahan.

They said that Trump stands for their values and that it will be important for a Republican to appoint the next Supreme Court justice.

Experts expect Mississippi to go to Trump in November.

“Because Hillary is going to ruin our country,” Dorothy Lamar said. “I think Trump, with all his faults, wants to take us in the right direction.”

Others said it’s because of key issues.

“To me, the most important part of this presidential election is the Supreme Court justices will be appointed because that’s the future of my grandchildren and everybody’s children,” Jerry Keith said.

The final presidential debate is next Wednesday, October 19th.

WCBI will have more from Thursday’s rally, including comments from U.S. Senator Roger Wicker Friday morning on Sunrise.
