Scruggs Moved To Halfway House
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Disbarred Mississippi attorney Richard “Dickie” Scruggs has been moved to a halfway house in Montgomery, Ala., as he awaits release after serving time in a federal prison for a judicial corruption conviction.
The 67-year-old Scruggs was sentenced to seven years in 2009 for allegedly influencing former Hinds County Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter in a civil lawsuit.
Prosecutors say Scruggs told DeLaughter that he would recommend the judge for an appointment to the federal bench in return for a favorable ruling in a court case.
DeLaughter pleaded guilty in 2009 to obstruction of justice. He’s out of prison
Bureau of Prison records show Scruggs’ release date as Sept. 14.
