Video: Veterans and “Sonny” Montgomery Still Connected

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI-TV) – Veterans at Mississippi State University now have a brand new place to call home.

The G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery lobby was dedicated this afternoon on campus. It is the home to the Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans located inside the brand new Nusz Hall.

Montgomery served Mississippi as a Congressman for 30 years. He chaired the House Veterans Affairs Committee for more than a dozen years.

Montgomery is best known for drafting and passing the Montgomery GI Bill that allows active duty, veterans and reserve military to continue higher education.

He was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Sonny Montgomery died in 2006, but his legacy of working for the best in education and veterans rights continues today through the Montgomery Foundation.
